On our unit, those unannounced “6 a.m.” checks go smoother when the count room auto-prints a roster that highlights any initial classification overrides, and we use a one-line “plan touch” template in OMS so each check updates the individual plan without adding work. Auditors liked that it shows continuity under pressure, but if your system doesn’t do templates, @ShiftLead_K keeps a 3-line cue card on the clipboard to prompt the update in under 90 seconds. Tiny tweak, but it cut our audit exceptions on plan maintenance by about half.

Quick tip from my side: we added a tiny “why override?” line under each name on the 6 a.m. roster so the officer can read the one‑sentence rationale and initial it; audits move faster and plans don’t get hollow. It only works if night shift updates by 0530 — @jmoore45 have you tried that?
